Procuring Responsibly

Through a highly efficient supply chain, we strategically source commodities and equipment from national and international suppliers as per the business requirements. The logistics operations and inventory management framework places much emphasis on reducing waste throughout the supply chain. We are investing in appropriate technologies to create best-in-class procurement processes with the implementation of latest IT systems.

We have a sustainable procurement policy along with a supplier code of conduct that meticulously governs our relationship with partners. The policies enable the supplier screening process and help evaluate them on the basis of social and environmental parameters. Our procurement practices are aligned with aligned with the Sustainable Procurement Principles and Guidelines, ISO 20400:2017.

AIL is also committed to increasing diversity in the supply chain, and as part of the same, during FY 2022-23 we have procured approx 850 crore of goods and services from Micro Small and Medium Industries, this is an increase of 62% from last year. Circular Economy in Procurement

Concept of Circularity in Supply Chain

To improve circularity and to bring the concept of 3Rs into procurement of material, various initiatives were taken during FY 2022-23.

1. In an effort to optimise resource utilisation and reduce costs, we successfully implemented a procurement avoidance strategy through the utilisation of surplus and averaging material. This initiative, resulted in a significant saving of Rs27.21 Crore. This initiative was also aimed at minimise the need for new/fresh procurement by effectively managing existing inventory and leveraging surplus materials.

2. We have utilised 830 Kgs of MS scrap accumulated from the dismantled plant and damaged machine during FY 2022-23. We check the scrap quality before reusing for the possibility of re-utilisation in rack fabrication with the proper machining process.

3. We are committed to promoting the principles of reuse, repair, and recycling as part of our sustainability initiative. As a testament to this commitment, we have recently purchased six used MSGL (Mild Steel Glass Lined) tanks/ vessels from Peer Industries. These tanks/ vessels have been acquired to support our efforts in reducing waste, conserving resources, and minimising our environmental impact. Also for our commitment to reduction of resources, we have implemented digital gate pass, issuance reservation slip, QC compliance, etc. which save around millions of paper yearly thereby reducing the environmental impact of our operations.
